| 费正清是美国现代中国学之父，终生在中国问题研究领域里耕耘，著作等身，而且钟情于中美关系正常化和以中美为基础的和平发展。在冷战以来长达三十余年的中美隔绝年代里，他一直处在中美关系前景的学术探索和"以学干政"的政策建议实践之中，并逐渐得到了美国决策层的认可和接受，为中美关系正常化和正式邦交事业做出了杰出贡献。几十年用心和用笔赢得的中美邦交，使得费正清不仅获得了政治荣誉上的得偿所愿，而且增强了中国学事业的合理性和贡献率，有助于两个迥异文化代表的国家走在一起，对实现文明共享的全球化事业具有积极而深远的意义。 |

| As the father of American Chinese Studies, John King Fairbank has devoted his whole life to researches in Chinese issues, and published a prolific body of works. He advocated the normalization of Sino-US relationship and peaceful development of both countries. In the thirty years of Cold War with total isolation between China and US, he conducted academic research on the prospects of Sino-US relationship and offered political advice on this issue to the American authorities. He made outstanding contributions for the normalization of Sino-US relationship and the establishment of diplomatic relations by persuading the American authorities to accept his advice. With decades of efforts by his heart and pen, he was greatly honored in politics and enhanced contributions of Chinese Studies in US, which was helpful for two nations representing widely different cultures to join together. It is of far-reaching significance to the realization of sharing civilization globally. |
