| In his preface to Syokenko, Daoyan, the famous monk in Ming Dynasty, points out that the Chinese poems written by Zekkai Tyusin are characterized in "clarity, gracefulness and expression of upright personality". In this paper, we analyze the origin of such a remark and its connotations, based on a study of Daoyan's poetic theories and thoughts. With textual analysis of the poetic pieces in Syokenko, we explore the styles of Zekkai Tyusin's Chinese poems. |
