In Liang Qichao's mind, Confucius's idea of "doing what is known futile" and Lao Tze's thought of "to do but not to own" are the key for people to settle their lives. On basis of those thoughts he advanced an outlook of life on basis of integrated responsibility and interests. He put emphasis on the pleasure, responsibility and disinterestedness of life and pointed out that we should live for life's sake and do what we want to. Such a thought, highlighted in its integration of knowledge and practice and its indifference to favor and humility, not only exerted great influences on young students of his time, but also shed lights on intellectuals in later times. |
