| The young Southerners in Flannery O’Connor’s fiction are very much alike the author herself.They are rather well educated,keen aware of the social change and open-minded for new things and fresh ideas.However,thanks to their growth in the Deep South and the imperceptible influences from their parents,they can hardly become thorough liberals and reform supporters.Enduring the mental torture caused by the contradiction between new and old ideologies,they have to free themselves from the existing dilemma so as to get accommodated to the new social institutions. |
