| 尤曼斯是一名身残志坚的科学教育家、优秀的科学普及工作者、编辑，他将自己的一生都献给了科学教育事业。尤曼斯认为古典教育的课程不适应当前科学技术迅速发展的世界，认为科学教育能够为学生提供更高形式的心智训练，现代社会更需要科学教育，主张改革科学教育的课程和教学方法。尤曼斯采用新的、有价值的、有趣的图表的方式编写《化学图表》《化学教科书》《化学地图集》等教材，受到众多师生和民众的欢迎，产生了非常大的影响。为了向全世界普及科学教育思想，尤曼斯还组织全球的著名科学家一起编写《国际科学书系》，共出版了98本，在多个国家出版发行，影响非常大，效果良好。为了普及科学教育，尤曼斯还创办了《大众科学月刊》杂志，对美国科学教育的普及和发展发挥了重要的作用。 |

| Edward Livingston Youmans, broken in body but firm in spirit, is a scientific educator, an excellent interpreter of science, and an editor. He devoted his life to science education. Youmans believes that the curriculum of classical education is not suitable for the rapid development of science and technology, that science education can provide students with better mental training, and that modern society needs science education. Therefore, he advocates reform of curriculum and teaching methods of science education. Youmans put the new, valuable and interesting charts into his textbooks like Chemical Chart, Class-Book of Chemistry, The chemical Atlas, etc, which were very popular among teachers and students. In order to popularize the ideas of science education around the world, Youmans, together with famous scientists from around the world, edited The International Scientific Series, which included 98 books totally. They were published in many countries and had an effective result. Besides, he also founded the magazine Popular Science Monthly which played an important role in the popularization and development of science education in the United States. |
